Are you ready to starting a tree service in your area? If so, you are in for a rewarding and lucrative business experience. There are several things you have to do to get your business off the ground. One of the most important things to do is acquire all the proper equipment to offer full-fledged tree trimming and removal among other services.
The Basic Equipment
The essential equipment will include a truck or van in which to carry the rest of your equipment. You will need chainsaws, pruning shears, ladders, climbing equipment and safety gear like goggles and gloves. You will also need a suitable space in the truck for disposing of any mulch or tree limbs.
To figure out just how many items you need, you need to decide how big of a company you plan on becoming. For most people starting out, the business will be small and will only consist of one truck and one of each of the essential tools for tree service work. For anyone who is planning on being a larger outfit, more equipment and trucks will naturally be required from the start.
Tree Service Experience and Knowledge
You do not have to have any particular degree in landscape architecture or botany, but you will need to know some basics of tree care and tree diseases. Most of your work will require you to assess exactly what the situation is regarding a particular species of a tree before pruning it or, sadly, cutting it down due to a disease.
Most tree trimming beginners already have some hands-on experience in the field. You do have to know how to trim and prune trees obviously before starting out on your own. Of course, if you are interested in starting a tree service but do not have experience this does not bar you from it altogether. You could hire out experienced tree trimmers who work for you as employees. In this case, you would probably still want to buy equipment for them if you are not going to use them as subcontractors.
In the case of using subcontractors, you would take a share of the money earned for obtaining the clients and pay the workers the rest of the money. Just like our local tree service, they would be using their equipment and trucks which would save you from having to invest in these pieces of equipment. However, you probably would not earn a lot to start, and you would have to focus on growing the company to realize sizable revenue from it.
Finally, you will want to have a storage space rented for equipment to be stored when you are not working or when it is the off- season. You could also build a shed on your property for this purpose if you own a home. Once you get all the basic equipment together, you must also obtain a business license and get all proper insurance including worker’s compensation, property and auto insurance.
